The 2022 vintage was a somewhat cool vintage giving some extra hang time to develop additional flavours and structure. The nose shows a muscular perfume, lifted red florals, red cherry, plum, dusty earth, and a slight undergrowth lace. In the mouth it is medium bodied, you see a dusty earth showing through again to the wine, with sweet slippery fruit, cooking spice, fine dry tannins and of course that classic slightly bitter botanical note on the finish. One great observation has also come from the Nicks Wine team which we love and that is the emergence of a cherry nose and body. We had seen the transition from the initial young blackcurrant flavour to a more redcurrant taste. I think Nicks have hit the mark here – it’s actually much more like a cherry nose now. A beautifully made pinot noir from an outstanding vintage at a great price. Waves of red and black cherry flood the fresh and juicy palate, which has good length and a long lingering aftertaste.
